“Yes,” you answer yourself - you did just say that. You just answered the foreign business associate’s question with no pause whatsoever. You handled it with ease. And now the people you work with, who thought they knew you - they’re looking at you funny.

“Who is this guy, this brown-noser?” they’re thinking. “To so convincingly, so intelligently answer that question in front of everyone - including the boss - he must have been secretly studying for years for this very day.”

All of which you’ve learned in the language incubator of conversation. When opportunities appear, like this foreign associate’s question, you don’t need to think. You let your brain - the sponge that it is - do what it does best: Learn, understand and speak the language.
